Reopening Plan 2020

2020 Reopening Plan

Greetings Parents and Families of the North Bolivar Consolidated School District!

Thank you for accepting the role as “teachers” during the national quarantine. You balanced teaching and learning to ensure that our students received an appropriate education throughout a very difficult time. I, along with the leadership team of North Bolivar Consolidated School District, have been working diligently to create safe and educational reopening plans for the upcoming school year, 2020-2021.

The North Bolivar Consolidated School District’s reopening date will fall between August 13 – August 20, 2020. To date, the cases in Bolivar County for COVID-19 exceed over 500. With this in mind, the Board of Trustees and district leaders of North Bolivar Consolidated School District have deemed it necessary to operate under the all virtual option for all students and all schools. This means all students will receive learning opportunities safely from home.

The school district will provide technology devices with connectivity capabilities. However, due to the high demand for technology devices across the nation, these devices may not be available during the first days of school. We strongly encourage the use of personal devices (laptops, phone, tablets) until these devices are received. To ensure quality instruction continues, the instructional staff of NBCSD will be crafting unit plans and engaging, educational materials. Our teachers will provide grade level specific instruction that will support our goals to decrease learning loss that may have occurred since March. Students will receive grades based on the grading policy of the NBCSD for promotion/retention purposes. Students will still receive feedback and monitoring from their assigned teachers to provide support and clarification of certain skills and concepts. Virtual training for students and parents will be provided on technology usage and technology platforms.

State law requires all school districts to report daily attendance. Therefore, all parents must register any student between the ages of 6 and 17 to be in compliance with Mississippi Compulsory Attendance laws. NBCSD is excited to announce online registration! Please contact your child’s school for more information.

NBCSD understands the important connection between healthy students and academic achievement. Committing to health and safety as a continuous top priority, the Child Nutrition Department of NBCSD will ensure that all students receive nutritious meals throughout the 2020-2021 school year.

We encourage our families to follow the guidance, mandates, and safety laws related to COVID19. By doing so, the positive cases will begin to decrease and we will be able to return to some sense of normalcy. We look forward to reopening and “re-connecting’ with the families of NBCSD!

With students first,

Maurice Smith
