SAFE RETURN TO IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION 

AND CONTINUITY OF SERVICES PLAN

1. How will the school ensure continuity of services for academic needs of students?

District:

* Provide continuous professional development in the areas of reading, math, other 

content areas of need, best practices, MTSS, and social and emotional support.

* Review 2021-2022 school year pacing to ensure acceleration and enrichment 

learning opportunities to address learning gaps from the 2020-2021 school year.

* Provide continuous students services and support through related service 

providers, to include English learners teachers, diverse learners teachers, and 

counselors.

*  Ensure accountability of instruction and learning experiences through 

continuous monitoring of instruction and instructional practices and providing modeling and feedback if any and when necessary.

 

Elementary:

* Each Instructor will provide high quality instruction with students sitting at a safe 

distance.

* Provide continuous professional development in the areas of reading, math, best practices, MTSS, and social and emotional support.

* Review 2021-2022 school year pacing to ensure acceleration and enrichment tie to address learning gaps from 2020-2021

* Related services providers, including English learners teachers, diverse learner teachers, and the counselor will continue to provide student services.

 

High School:

* Our school will be implementing a 4x4 block schedule

* We will have qualified teachers in all subject areas.

* We will continue using TE21 for testing

* We will continue to provide/offer professional development for teachers.
 

2. What is the school’s plan for safely scheduling face-to-face instructional delivery 

students when school opens?  (prioritized content, accelerated learning 

opportunities, intensive tutoring, after-school learning opportunities, etc.)

District:

Class sizes will be limited to ensure safe and comfortable instruction and may be provided in small group settings to intensify instruction to meet the needs of every learner.  The plan will also include best practices to include the following:

Diagnostic screeners will be given throughout the year to all students.

Resources and strategies will be differentiated to accommodate a range of student needs and requirements, including English learners, students with disabilities, and gifted students.

Schoolwide intervention periods will be defined to ensure effectiveness and accountability of enrichment and acceleration opportunities/interventions.

Effective afterschool programs will be provided for K-12 students, as determined by data.

Pacing guides will be reviewed and revised to ensure appropriate pacing and curricular continuity.

SchoolStatus, Class Dojo, and Active Parent will be utilized to communicate students’ academic progress to students.

 

Elementary:

Diagnostic screeners will be giving throughout the year to all students 

Differentiate resources and strategies to accommodate a range of student needs and requirements, including English Learners, Students with Disabilities, and Gifted

Class sizes will be limited to ensure safe and comfortable instruction may be

High School:

We will have bell to bell instruction in all courses.

We will use resources such as Edgenuity, iReady, USA TestPrep, AlgebraNation, etc..

We will implement a functioning after school program.

 

3. What is the school’s contingency plan for scheduling instructional delivery to students should the district or school(s) have to close due to an outbreak (i.e., COVID-19, influenza)?

District:

Should there be a need for scheduling instructional delivery to students due to an outbreak, staff will provide virtual instruction using learning management systems such as Google Classroom and Canvas through Google Meet and Webex.  All students have Chromebooks or laptops, and mobile hotspots for Internet access.  

 

Elementary:

All students have Chromebooks and hotspots 

Utilize Google Classroom to provide online platform for all grades

Staff will provide virtual instruction via Google Classroom as needed

 

High School:

We will move to virtual learning using our virtual schedule and all students will use their district issued devices.

 

 4. How will the school monitor student progress for both in-person students and students who may be receiving virtual instruction due to an underlying medical condition?

District:

Administrators and teachers will monitor student progress for both in-person students and students who may be receiving virtual instruction through the monitoring of daily assignments, bi-weekly assignments, benchmark assessments, and diagnostics assessments, and assignment and assessment results to inform instructional decisions.  Specific programming will include i-Ready, Study Island, Edgenuity, USA Test Prep, CASE 21, SAM Spectra, and School Status.

Elementary:

iReady, Studyisland, CASE, and SAMS will be used to monitor student progress

Teachers and administrators will monitor daily assignments, bi-weekly

Assessments, benchmark assessments, and diagnostics to inform instructional decisions for in person and students receiving virtual instruction.

High School:

We will review diagnostic, benchmark, and teacher individualized formative assessments. Students who desire virtual learning will participate in asynchronous learning (flip learning, video recording, and etc.,)

 

5. How will the school ensure continuity of staff observation and feedback cycles, for both in-person and virtual instruction?

District:

Administrators and staff at all schools will be trained on the Mississippi Department of Education Professional Growth System and components of relevant growth rubrics.  Administrators will create monthly schedules to ensure observations of in-person and virtual instruction.  Formal and informal feedback will be documented in the SchoolStatus feedback platform.

Elementary:

 School Status will be used to provide feedback to staff

The administration team will continue to use SchoolStatus to provide feedback for both in person and virtual instruction.

 

6. How will the school gather feedback from staff about instructional programming and needed support? 

District:

Feedback from staff about instructional programming and needed support will be gathered via evaluations and surveys throughout the year.

 

Elementary:

 Observations, surveys and grade level meetings will be used to gather feedback

High School:

We will use surveys and PD analytics.

 

7. What is the school’s process for student arrival and dismissal?

Elementary:

Drop-off times may be staggered, and students will enter the school building through assigned entrances in order to ensure proper social distancing

Before entering the building, a staff member will check each student’s temperature. If a student’s temperature is above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, they will be taken to a care room

Decals for social distancing will be placed throughout the hallways

At the end of the school day, students will move through the school’s hallways and will remain socially distanced. They will then exit the building through their assigned door.

Students must enter the building each day, wearing masks. Temperature checks will be conducted at the door. Students will sanitize their hands upon entering the building. Students who eat breakfast will report to the cafeteria, sanitize hands, pick up a tray from the food serving line, and sit two seats apart while eating. Students will then report to their assigned classrooms. Students will be dismissed by mode of transportation. Bus students will be dismissed when buses arrive. 

 

High School:

When students arrive:

We will check temperatures.

Students will have clear or mesh backpacks.

Students will proceed through the metal protector.

When students depart:

The walkers and car riders will be dismissed first and then the bus riders will be dismissed by bus.

 

 8. How will the school provide transportation? (include description of district protocols: windows, masks on bus, cleaning schedule, seating arrangement based on loading order / unloading order) 

Elementary:

Bus schedules will be altered to maintain social distancing and to limit the number of students on a bus

Seats will be assigned on the bus and will limit (1) student per seat. Relatives in the same household may ride seats together

Buses will be sanitized between routes

Bus monitors will be placed on each bus to enforce guidelines and to assure that proper cleaning is conducted

Masks must be worn on the bus at all times. Students will load the bus starting from the rear and unload from the front to avoid contact with other students. 

 

High School:

Bus schedules may be altered to maintain social distancing and to limit the number of students on a bus.

Relatives in the same household may ride seats together.

Students must wear masks.

Buses will be sanitized between routes.

An adult bus monitor will be placed on each bus to enforce guidelines and to assure that proper cleaning is conducted.

Students will load the bus from the back to the front and will exit the bus from the front to the back.

PPE and cleaning supplies will be available on each bus

Windows may be open as weather permits.

Mask wearing sign will be placed on each bus

 

9. Where will the school provide meals to students?

Elementary:

Meals will be provided in the cafeteria. 

Students will eat all meals in their classrooms; or if space allows, they will eat in the cafeteria on a staggered schedule

Cloth face coverings can be removed while eating. 

Eating spaces, whether in class or lunchrooms, will be wiped down and disinfected between use

There will be hand sanitizing stations placed in the cafeteria and  throughout the building

 

High School:

Students, along with their teachers, will eat in the cafeteria.

Students must wear masks through the cafeteria line.

There will be three lunch periods.

11.  How will the school provide academic support to families?

Elementary:

Training will be provided 

Provide immediate feedback

School counselor will provide daily support 

Academic support will be offered to the parents via monthly parent meetings to assist families in understanding data,  learn instructional strategies to help students at home, and to keep parents informed of new education updates from the state.  

High School:

We will continue to use our school helpline.

We will have data nights.

We actively use our parent center.

 

12. How will the school gather feedback from families of diverse student groups about instructional programming and needed support?

Elementary:

Surveys and School Status will be utilized to gather feedback (Translated) 

The school will use various surveys and needs assessments to gather feedback about instructional programming and needed support. 

High School:

We will continue to use comprehensive need surveys.

 

 COMMUNICATIONS 

13. How will the school communicate regularly with families to promote healthy behaviors to reduce spread?

Elementary:

Health will be taught schoolwide on Wednesdays

Counselor will provide weekly tips and post videos on Brooks’ Facebook page

We will provide weekly or daily communication as needed via school status, classdojo, AIM Alert, newsletters, and media  to provide information on protective measures and preventative strategies to promote safety.

High School:

We use district and school level websites, social media outlets (Facebook and Instagram), newsletters, brochures, and guidance. 

 

 14. How will the school communicate health and safety issues or necessary changes to the district’s regular operating schedule? 

Elementary:

Health will be taught schoolwide on Wednesday

Counselor will provide weekly tips and post videos on Brooks’ Facebook page

High School:

Our partnership with Shaw Family Medical, along with our SRO will use SchoolStatus, along with our social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, district website, school websites, and principal weekly messages.

16. How will the school address the social, emotional, mental health, and other needs of students and staff? 

Elementary:

The counselor will provide training and individual sessions 

 The school will provide a counselor to provide social and emotional support to students through individual counseling, group sessions, and monthly topics delivered school-wide. The school will continue partnership with Mental health to provide mental health services to identified students.  Additionally, the school will continue its partnership with Shaw Family Medical to meet the medical, dental, and vision needs of the students.  

 

High School:

Our counseling department will oversee the SES program and also work with the mental health department to provide assistance.

17. What specific steps has the school district taken to address air quality within school facilities? 

High School:

The district has evaluated all buildings to determine problem areas related to air quality.

The district has begun the bidding process to address the air quality needs in each school, office, shop, etc.

Elementary:

Yes, parents will be asked to check their child’s temperature before leaving home 

Health screenings are not required by families before students come to school, but students will be screened daily with temperature checks.

Elementary:

Yes, staff and students’ temperature will be checked upon arrival in the building.  At each entrance, there is a touchless temperature scanner to check students’ and staff  temperature. The device also requires that each person entering the building wears a mask before entering. 

 

High School:

Elementary:

Yes, all students and adults will be required to wear a mask

Students with visible symptoms should remain home and/or asked to go home and return after proof of visiting a doctor.

Elementary:

Extracurricular activities will maintain the same guidelines of the academic day.  All individuals will be required to wear a mask and will stand/sit the appropriate distance apart.

District:

All schools are presently 1:1, providing a vast array of opportunities for teachers to utilize technology to enhance in-person learning and support remote learning for students as needed.  Students will utilize Chromebooks or laptops and mobile hotspots or school Internet to supplement in-person learning, increase technological skills, and ultimately improve student achievement.  Teachers and students will continue to utilize learning management systems, such as Google Classroom and Canvas and benefit from the use of video platforms, such as Google Meet and Webex, if and when needed.  The teachers will be encouraged to incorporate digital and interactive lessons, student response systems, virtual field trips and experiences, and educational websites as best practices to become habits of the educational process.

Elementary:

The school is 1:1. Students will use their Chromebooks and Wifi or school internet to supplement in-person learning and support remote learning for students. This may include the continued use of Google classroom, student response systems, and digital field trips. The teachers will be encouraged to frequently incorporate interactive lessons and websites into their lesson plans and utilize their Smart boards when possible.

All students K-6 will have a district email
