For the first time in many years, NBCSD has an "in-house" foreign language teacher who also serves as an extended day English as a second language instructor. Meet Ms. Sonya Lee, the Spanish and American Government/Economics teacher at Northside High School. When her day ends at Northside, Ms. Lee travels to Brooks Elementary (BES) to work with Victor Morales, a 5th grader at BES.Victor's primary language is Spanish, and Ms. Lee works with him to give him a greater confidence in the overall daily usage of the English language.
Although this is her first year with NBCSD, she is not a novice when it comes to teaching. Ms. Lee, a native of Chicago, has over twenty years of teaching experience with various grade levels. Before relocating to the Mississippi Delta, she taught for many years in elementary schools in the Chicago area. Prior to teaching at Northside, Ms. Lee worked as a spanish instructor in the Cleveland School District.
